Great Addition to GPS 100

The upgrade pack is a great addition to the Whistler GPS. The maps are very detailed and current. The GPS shows the road name you are on and the cross street names when you pass corners. It even has small roads such as in parks.

It also has points of interest (POI) such as hotels, gas stations, and restaurants. The POI locations seem to have been estimated from their address so there location is not as exact as the roads. You can search for POI near you and then set it as a location so the unit shows you which way it is to the POI.

The road and POI information goes on a compact flash memory card. You put the information on by counties. The 32MB card that comes with the unit holds lots and you can always buy larger cards.

The data transfer rate to and from the GPS is very slow. You will really want to have a card reader/writer to put maps on the memory card instead of going through the GPS but these are cheap. You have to go through the GPS for waypoints, routes, and tracks.

The software works but it lacks some features that I expected. For example, you can't search by address.

The instructions could be better.
