Very high quality product, but time consuming to use.

My story
I purchased the Champion 2000 Juicer about 8 months ago. I was lucky enough to buy it used from someone who didn't use it much so I got a very good deal. I still would have eventually purchased the Champion juicer at full retail price it would have just taken a little longer until I could afford it.

I purchased the juicer for overall improvement of my and my husband's diets. Fresh juices are much more rich in nutrients than store bought bottled ones, which can sit on a shelf for months or even years before expiring. They contain no extra unnecessary ingredients like sugar, corn syrup, artificial coloring or preservatives. The flavor of fresh juice is like nothing you can buy pre-made. It doesn't even compare.

The reason I decided to buy the Champion and not another brand of juicer is that it was recommended to me by my boss. My boss and his family are vegans who eat very healthy. They have had their Champion juicers (one at home and one at the office) for almost 17 years and they are still going strong. The juicer has changed very little since then. The shaft of the body was once just plastic, now it is lined with metal inside which makes it stronger. My boss told me the only thing I may need to replace would be the cutter which may get dull, but not for about 10-15 years depending on how much I used it.

One of the most important reasons for buying this unit for me was to make fresh baby food with the homogenizing feature of the juicer. I don’t have any kids yet, but we will be trying in the next couple years. I want my child to eat the most nutritious food I can give them. I would rather not have their diet be filled with prepackaged and prepared food. Sometimes for convenience may be okay, but the bulk of their diet will be fresh, organic foods.

It makes great peanut butter. For me it costs less to make it than to buy all natural peanut butter at the store. We use it for sandwiches, and with crackers. My husband loves peanut butter cookies made with wholesome ingredients like whole wheat flour and maple syrup instead of sugar. Fresh nut butter also smells really good when it's just made.

The things I don't like about the juicer...
Using the unit and cleaning up can be a chore and time consuming. If you have the time, great. If you are a very busy person, juicing may not be for you. You would have to make time for it. That is why I got such a good deal on mine. The person I got it from didn’t use it much after buying it, they said they loved it but didn’t want to keep it because of time and convenience.

The unit comes apart easily. How easy it is to clean depends on what you are making in the unit. Apple juice is not very messy. Most of it just rinses off. Peanut butter is messy and a pain to get out of all the nooks and crannies of the parts. Carrot and some other foods stain the nylon plastic of the inside parts. The manual says to periodically clean or soak the parts in bleach to remove stains. I choose to have some stains on the plastic as opposed to exposing my food to the bleach chemicals.

You cannot use hot water to clean the nylon parts. I like to wash my dishes in hot water to kill germs. Since I can't use hot water I just use warm water with dish soap for the parts that need cleaning. Nothing is dishwasher safe. A nylon scrub brush works well to clean the cutter. The blades would chew a sponge into pieces. If you are careful when handling the cutter blade it would be difficult to cut yourself. It is not razor sharp, but I wouldn't let a young child handle it.

In summary
If you have the time, buy this unit. It works great, and lasts for a long time. Your health will thank you for it!
