Author's Review
I chose the Canon Rebel Ti because I was looking to get out of the point and shoot category, but I still wanted something that would be easy to use for those quick shots. This camera and I have been a perfect fit! It is very easy to use, a quick read through the instruction manual gets you familiar with the many features that the camera offers, and in a short time you can be taking pictures with as much ease as a point and shoot, but far better looking results.
I have found the numerous focusing points to be extremely helpful in composing my shots, and the fast continuous shooting mode is great, it allows me to catch my 2 year old in action and get some great series of shots that really tell a story. This is also one of the reasons why I opted for a film camera rather that a digital, two year olds move fast, and that pesky shutter lag with most digitals at the same price point wasn't allowing me to catch those shots that I wanted. None of that here with the Rebel.
One of the things that I have found that I don't like is when shooting in the green mode (fully auto) the camera decides for you whether or not you need that flash, it disables the flash in this setting, you can even open it. I often like to use the flash even in bright sun just to fill in, especially on up close shots. I get around this by using the P shooting mode of the camera, which is also an almost fully auto shooting mode, allowing the user a few creative controls, one of them being the flash. The only other downside that I can think of to this camera is that it takes some practice with it to get good shots in low light. Experiment with your settings, film speed and brand you should be able to overcome that pretty easily.
I am an avid scrapbooker so picture color and clarity rank high on my list and I get it from this camera. It is worth mentioning that good processing makes a difference in your shots as well. Find a great lab in your area, get to know them and they will often be happy to tweak your photos in processing and help fix some of the mistakes that you may have made. Don't waste your time with the cheap drugstore/clubstore processing, if you want good looking shots, use good stuff, starting with this camera.
