Bumbo - Not For Chubby Babies
Date of Review: Feb 4, 2009
The Bottom Line: Light and convenient, but not for everyone. If your baby's legs are too chubby, it may not fit. If you baby is too active, she'll climb out of it.
My husband got the seat for our son for about $40 (at Bj's I believe). The baby was 4 months old at the time, but he could barely fit in the seat. It was not easy to get him out of it either. I would try to pick him up and the seat would just get stuck to his legs. OK, I have to admit that he was a chunky baby, much chunkier that the average, so it might have been the reason why. I just wish Bumbo's came in different sizes.
The good thing about the seat was that my son actually sat in it and seemed to enjoy it. When we were visiting our friends, we could just bring Bumbo along, put it on the floor and not worry about anything. However, Bumbo is not a good idea if your friends have dogs, cats or older children, who can knock it down and injure your baby. I also wish it was safe to put Bumbo on a chair, so it could be used when you go out to eat. It would make Bumbo much more marketable and useful.
We stopped using the seat after 3 months and it was not because my baby's chunky legs wouldn't fit (although I can see this being a problem for some). It was because he learned how to climb out of it.
I don't think we got our money worth, but who knows, you might be luckier.
