Breaking The Law Isn't the Same In The Land
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2000
All right. Obviously I read this book to tie up the series. I can't say I'm disappointed but it's not the greatest. The sixth book White Gold Wielder had and extremely weak begining because in the second chronicles you HAVE to read the other books first. The begining had no action and came out of an actionless ending to another. However the ending, I've read it over many times now and it is spectacular. Well explained and action filled explaining secrets and curing the land. Good.
Plot
This story alone has an o.k. plot but the begining brings it down. With the other two books it has a great plot. Well explained and easy to understand even if you haven't read the first chronicles, the second will be good. But the ending. As I said, it is the greatest ending of any book ever that I have read. The ultimate confrontation, the hero makes a seemingly unreverseable mistake, evil can't win because of hate for defeat. He can't obtain his goal so he goes down in flames. Now the progression of the book is ok with new exciting things happening now and then to keep you wanting more. Overall it has a good plot.
Characters
Good
The good characters in this story are all the same from the other two so by now they ought to be understood. The don't do thing that are so stupidly unreal or dumb enough that only someone with a bricks IQ would do it. They follow their traits and have ups and downs. There goal stays the same and they understand and follow it.
Evil
The evil characters in this book are mostly well done, however a few (such as Vain) are very un-understandable. Also some of them make dumb mistakes that they should know they shouldn't do. For example. The raver that tries to take over Honninscrave should know that without the illearth stone he cannot possess a giant or a haruchai, they are too strong minded. Also Lord Foul could have banished Covenant, I don't think he was that power crazy with defeat that he couldn't realize it. He is a real genius. He would've figured it out. Other than that though the evil characters were written well and followed their traits.
Other Book Suggestions
If you liked this book and/or it's series you should check out the First Chronicles of Thomas Covenant The Unbeliver. If you have read them and are in need of another good adventure/fantasy book I would look into the harry potter series.
Overall
Overall this book is a good one and anyone who started the series should get through it to read this one. It's very well written and interesting. From the last 3rd of the book it's entirely action packed. Check it out.
