Gritty, Direct--Real as it gets

Date of Review:  Oct 14, 2002
The Bottom Line: Read this book with your status hungry teenagers. Perhaps they will begin to see the depths of life.
Review: Thank you Mr. Steinbeck. This is one of the few books that I have found worthy of the investment to read several times. Each time, I find the colors and texture of the story even more vivid.

If you don't want a dose of reality, the book...

Here's a 100-word summary of Steinbeck's classic, written for a regular competition slot in the Daily Telegraph. Each week carried its own theme and when the theme was American Literature I chose to...

A Classic Read- (PLOT SPOILER REVIEW)

Date of Review:  Dec 17, 2005
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this book if you are interested in the Great Depression. It reveals a lot about that era that is often overlooked.
Review: The Grapes of Wrath, a poignant novel about the Great Depression and its effect on already poor Americans, follows the Oklahoma native Joad family. The family faces prejudice and troubles as they travel across the west to enjoy a more prosperous...

Not a bad classic

Date of Review:  Nov 26, 2000
Review: I love to read. I really do, and I could waste hours reading - I know reading is a beneficial thing to do, but when you do it as much as I do, you do start wasting some time. To make myself feel less guilty, I'm trying to read more classics, and my...

Grapes of Wrath

Date of Review:  Dec 10, 2002
The Bottom Line: I would definetly reccomend The Grapes of Wrath. This book is not only educational but its interesting and once you start reading it you can't set it down!
Review: The book "Grapes of Wrath" probably the best book I have ever read in my life. It is about a family that is traveling to California in order to find work. Of course there is more more to it then that. The book used a few different scenes. Because...

A spiritual journey inside a beat-up old truck!

Date of Review:  Aug 6, 2003
The Bottom Line: There is no plausible reason for anyone not to read this book. Virtually no one could be exempted from The Grapes OF Wrath. A must-read...
Review: The Guardian quoted The Grapes Of Wrath as a terrible and indignant book; yet it is not without passages of lyrical beauty I have to say that I totally agree with the review, however the term indignant strikes me as ironic since the book s moral...

"The Ghost Of Tom Joad"

Date of Review:  Dec 13, 2003
The Bottom Line: A difficult but stunning novel of hope, despair, and faith.
Review: The Grapes of Wrath is truly one of the most uplifting novels ever written.
Now, many people familiar with the plot of the novel may be wondering about the above statement. The prospect of a dirt-poor Oklahoma family heading to California...

The Real Depression Era Story.

Date of Review:  Aug 12, 2002
The Bottom Line: One of the best. A must read classic.
Review: John Steinbecks's The Grapes of Wrath is one of the most realistic novels ever written about America's depression. Written in 1939, the horror of the depression was still vivid in the hearts of people across America. This familiarity with the era...
