I Want a Fortune Quilt!
Pros:
Appealing and diverse characters
Cons:
The book is too short. I didn't want it to end.
The Bottom Line:
This is the first book I have read by Lani Diane Rich, but with such a great first experience, I can't wait to start reading her others.

Author's Review
Carly is having a rough week. Her ex-fiancee has surfaced at a very inopportune moment, she has lost her job, her best friend has professed his undying love for her (feelings not returned), and her mother, who abandoned the family 17 years ago, is back and begging forgiveness. And, to top if all off with a bright red cherry, it's all the fault of a psychic quilt!
Carly, a television producer for a small station in Tuscon is doing a feature story on a woman named Brandywine Seaver who claims to be a psychic quilt maker. Brandy makes quilts for people, often people she has never met and then claims that the quilt can predict the future of the person it belongs to.
Carly is convinced that Brandy is a fraud, especially when the woman gives her a quilt that was made several years ago and begins to make predictions about Carly's life. Brandy claimed that after she made the quilt, she didn't know who it belonged to, but held on to it knowing that the "owner" would someday come to lay claim.
Carly wants to write off Brandy as a quack, but when the predictions all begin to come true, she has no choice but to make some tough, life altering decisions.
When this book was first recommended to me, I was leery because the title put me off. I had visions of old women sitting in a room quilting and gossiping which is definitely not my kind of story. Well, let me just say, do not judge a book by its cover...or its title!!
The Fortune Quilt is a funny, romantic, touching, sad, and truly inspirational story that will have you laughing hysterically on one page, and crying on the next. The characters and situations are outrageous and believable all at the same time and Carly has great chemistry with every character she comes in contact with.
The Fortune Quilt is a fantasy and the basic concept is certainly not one that will appeal to all readers. But, even if you're not a believer in the paranormal, if you believe in friendship, family, and love, you cannot go wrong with this book!
