Mitch Albom~For One More Day~Extraodinary in Simplicity

Mitch Albom is known for his work, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and he has returned with another breathtaking novel in For One More Day.

When you buy a book, you never quite know where it will take you on its own journey. The pages full of words that are put together to play out a beautiful story of life. Writing is so powerful that it can touch you in places you may not have known existed.

For One More Day was an amazing tale of the life of a man, Charley "Chick" Benetto. There are so many layers to the story itself that it would be difficult to fit them all in one review without ruining the book. However, I can tell you this.

Charley "Chick" Benetto was a man who had lived a full life but in a desperate moment as an alcoholic, everything changed for him. Chick went back to his home town where he grew up in, Pepperville Beach. It was the place where his family raised him and his sister. It is a town where memories flourish.

I believe in spirituality but my thoughts or beliefs when it comes to life after death aren't tested in this book. I don't look at it as a "ghost story" at all.

This is about the opportunity to have one more day with a loved one when you least expect it. What would you say? What would you do? What would you discover? Chick Benetto is lucky enough to have one more day where his life is turned upside down but comes full circle in the end.

This tale of a love between a mother and son is beautifully written and yet so simple to read. It took me only two hours to finish the book but I was enveloped within each page I turned to the very end. There are not large words that young adults wouldn't understand. There is not any harsh language used either. The words may be easy to comprehend but when it is put all together, it speaks to your soul.

I did have to use my glasses to read this small book. The font is most likely around 10 pt. There are short chapters throughout the entire book making it easy to put down and come back to. Although you may find yourself attached to it until you finish it. It also comes with a nice jacket that looks rather familiar to his other novels, so be sure you have picked up the right one.

It would make an excellent gift to a teenager from 16 years and older for Christmas or any other occasion. The lessons that are learned about love in this novel say it all for you. Albom does an excellent job at bringing this story of different relationships together. He does not leave any missing links to the very last word you will read.

I was incredibly touched by this novel. I sat and cried for about a half an hour after reading it and reflecting on my own life. It will bring up great discussions for a book club or family. It will tug at your heart and the last few chapters you may be fighting back the tears. Nevertheless, like Albom's other work, it is a must read.

I highly recommend For One More Day to readers young and old. It will open your mind in ways that you may not have known before. It is a simple book to read and story to follow. If I had one more day with a loved one like Chick Benetto did, I at least have an idea of what it could be like thanks to Mitch Albom.
