Brave New World: Drugged Out In An Implausible Future

Date of Review:  Feb 4, 2003
The Bottom Line: Sci-fi afficiandoes can do much better with Bradbury or more contemporary sci-fi authors.
Review: Another subtitle could be Stuck In Darwinian Antiquity. I wasn't able to choose which was better, but they infer the same thing because Huxley's intimidating message here is that in the far future we will still need domination by an elite few to be...

Brave new world right now

Date of Review:  Oct 8, 2001
The Bottom Line: Huxley's Brave New World is written about modern day America in a very indirect, yet correct way.
Review: While Huxley may have been predicting a far more dramatic Brave New World in his book, consider for a moment the aspects of BNW that are upon us now.

In Brave New World, life is not created by sexual reproduction of two loving adults, but...

Huxley's Brave New World. Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll....26th Century Obligations

Date of Review:  Dec 13, 2006
The Bottom Line: Read this book if you enjoy sardonic tear-downs of consumer society. Read quickly over the Bronte-esque interludes.
Review: This book springs from one problem with large industrialized societies.

There is a need in such a society for a very large number of persons to perform manual, menial or service jobs. There is a need for relatively few persons to perform...

Please Bring me Back to the Old World!

Date of Review:  Aug 4, 2001
The Bottom Line: I know it's supposed to be an importatnt book, but that really doesn't mean that is a good one. I found it very hard to follow and fairly boring.
Review: I had to read Brave New World for a literature class this summer. The teacher told us that it was a wideley studied story so I was excited to get to start reading it. From the first page on I hated the book. It doesn't flow through like you would...

Brave New Opinion

Date of Review:  Nov 30, 1999
Review: This book by, Aldous Huxley, is very slow starting out, but tends to get better as it goes along. I do not reccommed this book to many people except people who are interested in the future or are use to using big words. This book was very slow...

Oh My Ford!

Date of Review:  Mar 24, 2000
Review: In the book Brave New World, the concept of marriage and family no longer exists, in fact the terms are considered to be pornographic. Everyone is genetically cloned and their lifestyle is determined for them before they're even born. No one has any...

Technology Gone Awry

Date of Review:  Jun 17, 2000
Review: With its vivid description of everyday activities such as the "feelie" movies and classification of every human into one of five letter and color groups, Huxley's Brave New World is a fun read for young adults and teens.

The Brave New World...

The Bottom Line: Only if you really have nothing better to read....
Review: The role of science fiction, for better or for worse, is to get us to imagine the possibilities that lie in store for humanity s future. Indeed, many scientific discoveries and applications have become realities only after being the product of the...

O' Brave New World with such people in it!

Date of Review:  May 26, 2001
The Bottom Line: This is a fun read, and a great book. Science fiction fans and literature fans alike can appreciate it.
Review: Ah, so you are interested in Brave New World? In order to review this book, I have to seperate my review into two parts.

The first part is about this book as a science fiction classic. Huxley shows his skill in world building by creating...

Brave New World; a dark future that is becoming reality.

Date of Review:  Jan 8, 2000
Review: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is one of the most frightening and true novels ever written. It shows a psuedo- futuristic society in which humans are predetirmined, in intelligence, class and station, where the drug Soma rules mens' minds, and...
