Author's Review
This is my first review and I hope I will do it right.
When we talk about Nietzsche´s ´Beyond Good and Evil´ we tend to think of a transcendental world because the title of the book makes us think it.
Actually this book is not about other possible worlds. Nietzsche asserts that the only world we know is the one where we live. The others are just products of our imagination and our will for better things.
Most of the people need a religion to act correctly. Nietzsche claims that the existence of God cannot be shown. Because, according to rational thinking, there is no clue to affirm that God exists. And even in the case that God existed, how can I know the attributes He embodies? It is humanely impossible. But what are traditions? Traditions are the rules of our ancestors which were created according to what they thought was good and evil. Moral is born. But then moral is just a set of rules doomed to guarantee the preservation of society. And if this is right, what would then be evil in our society? All the persons who violate the rules which were laid down by our off-springs to keep the dream of civilization alive. That means - and I am just repeating it - that all men who respect rules are good and those who do not are evil.
Of course, our reality is much more complex nowadays and we can not make such abstractions because each case needs to be analyzed individually and in its own particular environment.
So the most accurate word to define ´Beyond Good and Evil´ is Perspectivism. I know that this will sound strange to the American mind which is basically puritan and, therefore, needs the existence of values to guide it.
Anyway, if we can proof that good and evil are just two different ways of looking at reality then we have introduced the notion of perspectivism. Why is it called Perspectivism, first of all? Because every human being has a certain perspective of reality which cannot fully coincide with the perspective of another person. Every one has his or her own ideas about what is wrong and good and society is just the acceptance of a set of rules after Debate. This was the way our ancestors proceeded to create the constitutional text. They had seventeen weeks of debate where they considered all the point of views of all of the members which formed the Comission.
It is needless to say that some of them did not favored the approbation of the constitution because they considered it undemocratic, but if we were to create a constitution whose articles were to satisfy everybody´s needs, then we would probably never create a single one.
That´s why we people must be tolerant because we have to understand that reality is quite more complex than it appears to us. And that´s why i counsel you to read ´Beyond Good and Evil´. It is not as much people claimed an evil work. It is a profoundly philosophical treatise which help us grasp present day society and which opened the path to a new philosophical current that was starting to develop at the end of the nineteenth century: Existencialism.
