A Book Everyone Should Read

Date of Review:  Jun 12, 2003
The Bottom Line: More than a novel, a first hand account of World War I and an indictment against war itself.
Review: When Erich Maria Remarque published All Quiet on the Western Front in 1929, a novel that details the horrors of the First World War, he knew from experience what he was writing about. That is because Remarque himself served as a soldier in the...

An Antiwar Masterpiece - The Anti-War Write Off

Date of Review:  Mar 30, 2003
The Bottom Line: The best novel I have ever read.
Review: This book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped...

All Quiet On The Western Front: Kat and Paul?

Date of Review:  May 4, 2000
Review: As All Quiet on the Western Front progresses and develops, there is one key aspect of Remarque?s writing that is fascinating to follow. At the beginning, when Kat and Paul share a goose together, in a seemingly peculiar wartime ritual, the reader...

Horrors of War

Date of Review:  Jun 7, 2006
Review: All Quiet on the Western Front is a gripping tale of the horrors of war. Remarque doesn't hold back from enchanting the readers mind with the graphic violence that so accurately depicts war. Based upon his own World War I experiences the story is...

NOTHING NEW

Date of Review:  Jul 12, 2003
The Bottom Line: I bet the person who coined the phrase 'The War To End All Wars' feels a bit silly now.
Review: I have a morbid fascination for WW1 - The Great War (there's an oxymoron for you) - particularly the Western Front.
I will read every book I can find, watch every movie/documentary, and I've visited most of the battleground sites and museums...

Quiet on the front, but loud in a little boy's heart.

Date of Review:  May 26, 2000
Review: This book has towered in my reading life, so much so I wonder why it has taken me so long to write about it.

It was the first book I was ever MANDATED to read ( for school, of course) that actually because a pleasure, a joy.. and a...

Analysis of All Quiet on the Western Front

Date of Review:  Jul 11, 2000
Review: In the book "All Quiet on the Western Front," the story revolves around Paul Baumer. The main plot of the story is that Paul and his comrades (Tjaden, Muller, Kropp, and a few others) as they fight on Germany's side during World War I. I find this...

Truly the Best War Book Ever

Date of Review:  Jul 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: This book goes deep into a soldier's heart, with so many emotions wrapped into a living nightmare of World War I.
Review: Let me just begin by saying I'm not fond of war books. I don't like reading them because I just think there is too much history jam packed within them. I can't stand remembering dates and boring details of history in association with major wars of...
