B & D Auto Adjustable Wrench. A Great Idea That Works!!

I have been seeing this tool advertised on TV a number of times this fall/winter season. The tool was advertised at about $20. I noticed it was on the Black Friday weekend sales at the Home Depot at $9.97. Let me tell ya, I think that was a great deal!!

This tool is just like any regular adjustable wrench in basic look. What differs is a rocker switch on the handle that opens and closes the jaws automatically. It's run by two AAA batteries that come with the tool. I think it's a really cool tool.

The wrench is considered an 8" wrench measured by the handle. The actual full length is 9 1/2" with the jaw section. That jaw opens to 1 1/2". It's about one inch deep. The handle is wider than a regular 8" wrench. Part of that reason is that the two AAA batteries are within the handle. The end of the wrench has an open loop that makes the wrench easily hung from a peg hook or nail. The handle end has an embedded rubber grip that feels comfortable. The papers with the tool say its heat treated hardened steel. It also comes with a two year manufacturers Warranty.

pops likes a few things about this tool. First is that the automatic switch is an excellent idea! I can't tell ya how many times I was frustrated in the past when working on a nit or bolt that I didn't have an open end or box wrench for. I had to use an adjustable and I was forever trying to guesstimate the correct size opening especially in hard to reach places. I would open it too much or worse too small and then have to adjust again. If the fit wasn't tight on a nut I would pull and the wrench would slip wearing the edges of the nut.
 
I recently had a problem with some drains in my home and had to attack from underneath, inside the crawl space of part of my basement. The area wasn't well lighted, I had all kinds of pipes in the way but, with this tool managed to help me easily reach beyond the web of pipes to the drain plug I had to loosen and remove. This tool was a gem in that spot. I just had to reach in with the jaws open and then hit the rocker switch that my fingers were on. Just like that, the jaws were in place and I could give a good solid turn.

In the time I have had the Black and Decker Auto Wrench I have not had to break any extremely tight nuts though I do believe the tool would be up to the task. I have tightened nuts well and I have not had any problems with this tool.

I happen to like the wider handle the Black & Decker Auto Wrench has as compared to a regular adjustable wrench. It fits very well in my hand.

For now I'm giving this four stars but it could go to five. I have yet to see how long the two AAA batteries last and I'm waiting for that really hard to break nut to get in my way. I will update when I do.

I recommend this an excellent gift tool for the handyman around the house. It's a tool all weekend warriors should have and I believe will appreciate.
