This electric lawn mower is an excellent alternative to gas models DEPENDING on the layout of your lawn.
Let's start off with the PRO's:
Somewhat surprisingly, I have found this mower to be quite powerful and more than capable of cutting high grass on those occasions when you've had to let the grass get higher than you should. And not surprisingly, it has turned out to be much nicer to use than gas mowers in several obvious ways. Never again will you be all prepared to mow the lawn only to realize you are out of gas or oil. It is significantly quieter, and does not produce those arm numbing vibrations that a gas engine does. Additionally, it is fairly light and well-balanced making it very easy to maneuver. For those who are used to a self-propelled mower, I don't think you will have any problem pushing this one. I have found it very easy to push up the steeply graded areas of my property. Some other less obvious features which are worth mentioning are its included rear bagger for those who don't want to leave it in mulching mode. And it has a very easy to use single lever that adjusts the mowing height at all four wheels simultaneously. Lastly, the mower deck and engine cover are all made of a heavy duty type plastic which I have found to be both more durable and easier to clean than the easily dented, scratched, and rust-prone steel decks of most gas mowers. In fact, Black & Decker offers a lifetime warranty on the mower deck, which says a lot about its expected longevity.
And now for the CONs:
Again somewhat surprisingly, there haven't been any negative issues other than the obvious - the cord. Unless you have generally square-shaped areas to cut with most of the mowing just going back and forth, you may very well get frustrated with keeping the cord out of the mowing path. Another source of frustration can be if you have a lot of trees or other obstacles to maneuver around. This can easily lead to a caught or tangled cord. If you are unsure if the cord would be too much of a bother, I would suggest using a long cord, garden hose, etc. and pulling it behind you as you go through a typical mowing pattern. This should offer you a good idea of what it will be like when pulling the actual cord with the lawn mower.
In closing, this mower has far more PROs than CONs. As long as you have a lawn which won't make pulling an electric cord behind you a big hassle, I think you will find this a much better alternative than a gas model. Furthermore, it will work out to be a lot more economical since the electricity to run it will cost much less than the gas and oil for a conventional mower.
