This model SUCKS!

I use this site and should "give back" so here's a review of one of my latest purchases.

Last year I had new carpet installed. While my very old Sharp vacuum cleaner still ran I wanted a new one. After reading many online reviews and visiting numerous stores I still had no idea what to buy. I knew which brands I didn't want. But that still left a slew of models from which to choose. Several months after my search began I gave up on trying to decide on THE best choice and just decided to buy something.

The store I was in had many, many vacuums on display. I narrowed my search down to two. Neither of these two models were 'on the shelf' so I summoned a salesperson. As he went to check for availability I told myself I was just going to purchase whichever of the two he came back with. And I'm glad I did!

My new vacuum is a Bissell model (series) number 3596. This sucker sucks ... in a very good way!

I noted this model has green/red indicator lights. The theory is the red light illuminates when the sensor senses dirt is being picked up and, when the carpet is clean, the green light illuminates. I thought these lights were probably relatively useless "gimmicks." Was I wrong!

The first time I used my new Bissell it took the better part of one entire afternoon to vacuum my 750 square foot apartment. That red light just stayed on. I went over and over and over the same area ... and the light still stayed red.

Some years ago a friend told me she had read that to get a carpet really clean one needs to vacuum an area seven times. Well, I counted how many times I went over areas in my place. In the worst, most traveled spots, I was well over seventy before I lost count and the darn green light would come on! (I knew I was going to be sore the next day ... and I was!)

I recall reading some reviews which stated they found the Bissell vacuums to be noisy. I don't find mine to be any louder than any other vacuum I've used or heard.

One word of warning: if you don't really want to know how dirty your carpets are and don't want to get them really clean don't buy this sucking sucker! Otherwise, I give this Bissell #3596 a big thumbs up.
