Baldur's Gate: One of the Best RPG's to Date!
Date of Review: Jan 16, 2000
I have been playing computer games for years - especially fantasy RPG's. Simply put, Baldur's Gate is one of the best I've ever seen. It provides an open, realistic world in which you decide where to go and what to do next, but still allows you to generally keep to the main storyline so you don't feel completely lost or frustrated.
Another great aspect of Baldur's Gate is its ease of play. It is a complex game which incorporates the true essence of AD&D (which I have played off and on since I was about 12), but the interface is so user-friendly, that the game is easy to play.
The only frustrating part is the relatively low experience cap - at ~80,000 Exp. Pts. It still allows your characters to grow and expand through most of the game, but generally speaking, they will max out when you are about 80% finished with the game (but maybe this is because I am the kind of player who wants to do EVERYTHING! - you know - completely explore every inch of every map, find every item, etc.). Even with the cap, there is still a good bit of room for advancement (up to about 7th level), and future games are declared to allow the use of the same characters with even higher growth.
