I Like This Assignment

On one of my trysts to the local video rental I spied an interesting looking film sitting on the shelf- and decided to make it my choice for the evening.

This movie "The Assignment" captured my interest because of it's spy theme. The cast is great also (Ben Kingsley, Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland) but as I'm a fan of James Bond movies it was the undercover aspect of the story that caused me to rent it.

Yet the movie offers so much more. It is a film about discovering what we're capable of doing, when we must, and becoming good at something that was previously unknown in our life. It carries themes you might recognize from such movies as 'Point of No Return' (with Bridget Fonda/ another must see) and even 'Natural Born Killers'.

This is an impressive journey for a naval officer who leads an ordinary and rewarding life, and now must forgo his morality to capture a renowned international terrorist. His journey from ordinary to killer begins as he is arrested by Israeli agents in a case of mistaken identity.

He is released, but soon finds himself being forced to accept a job from a CIA agent dead set on apprehending Carlos. The officer is soon trained as an assassin and replica of Carlos, so he may eventually disguise himself as Carlos to bring the untouchable terrorist to justice.

Please rent or buy this film, a true masterpiece in my opinion.
