A Great Gift

Date of Review: Aug 9, 2000

I used to read Architectural Digest at my grandmother's house growing up. (Ok, who actually reads Architectural Digest?)

I used to look at the pictures. Anyone who knows me knows that I love all things related to house building and hope to someday be able to design and build my own house. (With the help of people who know how to do that sort of thing, to be sure.)

Architectural Digest shows me a lot of different styles and designs, ideas I can aspire to, things I can jot down in my "house notebook", from design ideas to furniture, to ornaments.

I don't think I'm exactly their target (they advertised a house that was its own island in a straight off of England, for a mere $15 mil), but that doesn't mean I can't learn about this stuff.

While some may call it highbrow, or snobby, or stuff only rich people like, I would like to think that the editors of this magazine strive to present a wide-variety of styles and design ideas, more for decorating a house than for building it, but that's pretty important as well.

I think this magazine is worth the money (I indirectly pay for it, since it's a recurring gift subscription from my wife) and I like to save past issues because of some of the pictures or houses featured. (Heck, I pay more each month for satellite tv.)
