Author's Review
My 11 year old daughter has been wanting to write reviews, just like mom. So she is dictating this review to me. These are her own words, with maybe a few suggestions from me. Since she is too young to have her own account we figured that this would be the best way to handle the situation. And yes any money that she makes from of her reviews, she will receive. If this works out, I may help her with one every week or so. Who better to review kid stuff than kids? Thank you Cmuir
Today I am reviewing the movie Aquamarine. It begins with two teenage girls, that are B.F.F.'s, Hailey (JoJo) and Claire (Sara Paxton). Hailey is going to be moving in 5 days because her mom's job is taking them to Australia.
Claire's grandparents own a Beach Club; Claire lives over top of the club with them since her parents died in a boat accident. That makes Claire very afraid of the water. The girls are camping out in the rec hall of the Beach Club when they make a wish that Hailey will not have to move. Then a big storm comes during the night. In the morning they ran outside to see their biggest crush Raymond (Jake McDorman), who is cleaning the beach up after the storm. Claire is walking by the pool and the patio breaks and she falls in. While she is in the pool water she sees what she thinks is a shark that had washed in during the storm. Of course she is really scared since she is afraid of the water. Raymond has to rescue her out of the pool.
After Claire dries off they decide to go back to the pool later in the evening to feed whatever is in there. They try fish, fish sticks and gummy worms. That is when they discover it is a mermaid hiding in the pool. They visit with the mermaid for a while and go to bed. The next morning they wake up to the sound of the pump sucking the water out of the pool. The mermaid is not in the pool anymore. They hear a noise in the Beach Club store, they look in and find the mermaid inside naked, and she now has legs. They give her Hailey's shirt so she can cover up.
They take the mermaid to Claire's room where the mermaid is jumping up and down on the bed. She tells the girls that mermaids can have legs during the day, but will get their tails back at night. Also if they get wet they will get their tails back.
The mermaid's dad calls her on her "shellphone". After getting off of the "shellphone" with her father she tells the girls that she has three days to find love on land or she will have to marry a Blowfish. She looks out of the window and sees Raymond and decides that he is the one she loves. She runs downstairs and asks Raymond if he loves her. He says, "No, but you are hot." The mermaid is upset because Raymond does not love her.
She finally tells the girls that her name is Aquamarine (Emma Roberts), and if they help her find love she will grant them a wish. They both think that the wish will keep Hailey from having to move away. The girls try to teach Aquamarine how to meet boys, so they do the drive by of Raymond's house on their bicycles. Aquamarine falls off and scrapes her leg. She will not allow Raymond to wash the scrape off but she does allow him to put a bandage on it. That is when he invites her to the Street Fair. This is when Cecilia (Arielle Kebbel) shows up, she has a crush on Raymond too and is not very nice to the girls during the movie.
The girls go to Hailey's house and spend the afternoon reading magazines about boys. They go to the Street Fair and Aquamarine ends up on a paddleboat with Raymond. They are having fun and he invites her out again to go to the Last Splash (the end of summer party) with him. Aquamarine realizes it's almost dark and she will get a tail again. So they rush back to shore and the girls find her a place to spend the night, inside the water tower.
How will the second date go, will Aquamarine find love, will Claire and Hailey get their wish? You will have to watch the movie to find that out.
I liked this movie; Aquamarine is my birthstone so the title made me want to watch it. Also there are dolphins in the movie and they are my favorite animals.
Watching a movie about best friends and how much they loved and cared for each other made me think of my best friend Jessica. I know I wouldn't like it if she had to move away. I miss her when she spends a week at her dad's house. It also shows what true friendship is all about, whether it is an old friendship or a new one.
I also think it would be fun to live over a Beach club right by the ocean and spend your summers on the beach.
This movie was directed by Elizabeth Allen and is rated PG. Twentieth Century Fox Films made this movie.
