Author's Review
After the past nine years of washing my dishes with my wonderful Bosch Dishwasher, we moved into a new home that had all Amana stainless steel appliances which is my first time of owning both Amana and stainless steel in the kitchen appliance department.
The model of dishwasher my new home has is the Amana ADB1500AWS Stainless Steel Dishwasher and is the standard size model of 24 inches for those of you who has limited width considerations.
What The Amana Has and What It Does
During this review, I will periodically compare the Amana qualities and features against the Bosch from my last home so you can get a feel for the differences.
The Amana is stainless steel on the outside with an electronic control panel that is black with and white plastic interior. The Bosch I have is black on the outside with an electronic control panel with a stainless steel interior.
The Amana like the Bosch has an upper and a lower wash arm as well as a removable upper rack to give you more room on the bottom for large items. The Amana has 2 removable utensil racks that sit on the left side of the lower rack or upper rack or on the door and the Bosch has 1 larger utensil rack that sits on the bottom middle rack. These are called the "twice is nice feature" which gives it more flexibility of where to put your utensil bins.
The Amana does not offer like the Bosch the fold down section of the tines on the bottom rack to allow a flat area for certain items that fit more easily without tine interference.
The Amana has a soft food disposal while the Bosch does not.
The Amana has the option of heating your dishes to dry while the Bosch relies on the heat of the water to dry. The Bosch has a built-in hot water heater.
The Amana has a SoftSound Quiet 1 package while the Bosch has an excellent insulation package.
The Amana has a delay feature offering 2, 4, or 6 hours and a 100 percent filtered wash system keeping the food particles from being redeposited.
The Bosch model has a removable top rack that adjusted in 2 different heights while the Amana has a removable top rack that does not adjust in heights.
The remainders of the features on both are basically the same including the automatic rinse aid dispensers.
The Amana ADB1500AWS features the following 5 cycle options (per the homeowner's use and care guide):
Heavy Wash - approx. 132 minutes, 2 washes/3 rinses
Normal Wash - approx. 97-117 minutes, 1-2 washes/1-2 rinses
Light/Quick Wash - approx. 82 minutes, 1 wash/2 rinses
Hi Temp Wash - provides additional heat during wash portion
Heated Dry - for enhanced drying results
Delay - set delay wash for 2, 4, or 6 hour delay
My Experience
Even though we are empty nesters now my dishwasher does get full each day and I run it each evening.
I have never experienced a problem with food remaining on my dishes after the cycle is completed even though I just scrape off the large portions of food and place in my dishwasher. My glassware has always come out sparkling shiny.
I generally use the normal wash with heated dry when there are lots of pots and pans and the quick wash for just plates and glasses.
I have placed plastic ware on the bottom rack including lids and so far none have been warped or cracked and nothing has dropped down to the heating element like dishwashers in my past.
Dishes are dry when the cycle is completed and the only towel usage needed are on cups that have wells on them where water can collect.
One thing I have noticed is there is several green lights that come on indicating what you have chosen for the cycle but you have no idea where the cycle is at during the process and when the dishwasher is complete it shows no lights at all.
In closing, my comparisons between the Bosch and the Amana are that they both clean excellent and the Bosch has the extra nudge for quietness while the Amana has the extra nudge for drying. My plastics were never dry in the Bosch upon completion. The Amana dishwasher is located with the kitchen being part of the living area so it is definitely not too loud to bother you however with the Bosch you would have to walk up to it and see if it was running however the price was a lot more for the Bosh also.
In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either model.
This is an Energy Star Compliant model and the warranty is for one year.
