Unique, Clever, Mature and Exciting. A must have for any
music lover. Something for both the lyric-lover and the tune-lover. Simply Amazing. This album, in my opinion one of the best of last year is quite remarkable. 'A fever you can't sweat out' kicks off quite close to home, it gives the impression that someone is tuning the radio in and some of P!ATD's tracks are played quickly to give a good effect. Next up, 'The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage' sets the album up perfectly with it's catchy chorus of "Swear to shake it up and you swear to listen..". Later on in the album, is a fantastic dance track ('Time To Dance') - it's dancing-worthy beats and compelling lyrics are an automatic hit with any original fan.
The set-up of this album is quite remarkable; it's set up into two parts. The first half, dance and tecno beats and the second, more 'antique' and is played with accordions and piano's. A good move, as many people I've asked liked this concept.
What I liked about this album was how the tracks seemed to blend in with one another. The most noticeable is from the end of 'But it's better if you do' and the beginning of 'I write sins not tragedies'. The effect of a harp being plucked collides between one and the other.
Track Ratings:
Intro - 6/10 - Sets the album up, still, I can imagine that keen buyers would skip to some real P!ATD.
The only difference... - 7/10 - Catchy chorus and adequate beat. Doesn't give Panic! the justice they deserve, yet.
London beckoned... - 8/12 / 10 - Lyrically amazing, musically not bad. Lyrics show the struggles of P!ATD having to write songs quickly, and well.
Nails for break.. - 5/10 - Most of Panic!'s songs stick out in my head, but not this one. If there was a chance of any corners being cut in the album, I would imagine it to be this one.
Camisado - 8/10 - Starts awkwardly but picks up after the first three lines. An overall good listen.
Time To Dance - 9/10 - Catchy, easy listen, cleverly written. "Have some composure, where is your posture?" is clearly set in stone in your head for days
Lying is the most fun... - 10/10 - Marvellous. Arguably the most deep and sensual song on the album. Works very well and shows the very best of P!ATD
Intermission - 6/10 - The track that introduces the new stage of the album. Nothing to shout about.
But it's better if you do - 9/10 - Well written, upbeat and catchy. What more could you want?
I write sins... - 10/10 - What more could you want, you ask? This. Short but oh-so-sweet. Obviously about a failed wedding due to the wife's going on's.. Amazing.
I constantly thank.. 6/12 / 10 - Another song that has never been caught in my head. Average.
There's a good reason* - 10/10 - Fantastic song, annoyingly catchy and has a good beat and gives the feel of the 1920's.
Build God, then .. - 9/12 - 10 - A song about prostitution, or words to that affect. AMAZINGLY written and catchy. A decent effort to close a fantastic album.
