Product Review

Affordable excellence

by   teze ,   Nov 16, 2000

Pros:  Clarity, detail, sweet midrange, convenience, long wire

Cons:  Nothing serious for the price whatsoever

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought these cans about 3 years ago and to be frank I chose them without prior audition...I had two reasons: I had heard good thing about AKG's previously and these cans just fitted my budget.

I have listened to lots of headphones ever since and I must admit that this was a wonderful (blind) choice! Exceptional clarity and detail for the money, no conventional speakers under US$ 2000 get even close to it.

Seductive vocal performance and midrange and very sweet upper range makes it very easy and fun to listen. Unfortunately it is a bit short of lower bass but when I had the chance to compare them to another bass-rich product (Grado's and some Sennheiser plus Beyer D's), I always felt that those were, well, unbearably "violent" to my ears.

AKG 141 is best for vocal and acoustic instruments and will mercilessly reveal weaknesses of your front-end equipment and the records.

Due to its 600Ohm of impedance it is a bit uneasy to drive so a headphone amp is recommended.
