Keep Looking ..... Not worth the $$$$
Date of Review: Sep 22, 2007
The Bottom Line: This unit was not worth what I paid for it. Bottom line, there are better quality crockpots in this price range.
I bought this unit because of the name brand and because of it's size. I use my crockpot at least once a week on average, so I was willing to invest in something that would last.
My first unit had a malfunction and the manufacturer finally allowed me to return it after receiving numerous complaints from others -- it would turn off by itself after an hour or two on "High." It took me awhile to figure out why the food was still undercooked after 8 hours!
As the other reviewers have stated, the properly functioning units run hot and will burn what you are cooking if you don't check it periodically and keep adding liquid. I think the heat is what caused the plastic handles to break off. First the handle on the lid broke off -- this was after 4 months of use. The cost to replace the whole lid was ridiculous, so I ended up using a pair of pliers to take the lid off and on.
Several months later, one of the side handles broke off -- it looked like the plastic couldn't support the weight of the crockpot when I moved it. About a year later, the other handle broke off and there was no way I could use the unit without getting burned.
So while I used this crockpot for about 3 years, it was technically broken for all but 4 months. It is possible that the metal casing got so hot that it caused the plastic handles to fail.
