When the Miata was introduced in the summer of 1989 conventional wisdom said nobody wanted an inexpensive sports car. So much for conventional wisdom. . . . The Miata not only captured the hearts of driving enthusiasts longing for the days of the classic British roadster, it became the must-have fashion accessory of the day. In the beginning dealers routinely charged, and people willingly paid, thousands above the suggested retail price for Mazdas little roadster. Miata entered its second generation in 1999, when it was totally redesigned. More than 500,000 Miatas have been sold worldwide since it was introduced, the most sales ever for a two-seat roadster.

Better, Faster, Stronger

The Bottom Line: Pure fun and more grip than flypaper, this is an excellent sports car.
Review: Mazda has got to be one of the best kept secrets in the automotive world. Mazda makes great cars. Sure they may be a little niche-y but given the choice, I?d rather have a Protege than a Civic, or a Millenia S rather than an Accord. And so it goes...

The Bottom Line: Mazda listened to the owners of the previous generation Miata and successfully improved one of the greatest roadsters of all time. The 2001 only gets better.

The Bottom Line: Anyone looking for a sports car needs to benchmark a Miata. At this price its closest rival is the Toyota MR2 Spyder, but the Miata is the complete package.
