Disney's "Man Cub" Mowgli (voice of Haley Joel Osment) is back in this animated sequel to the 1967 classic. Mowgli, now living with an adopted family in a nearby jungle village, is homesick for his jungle adventures and his good friends, like Baloo the Bear (voice of John Goodman) and Bagheera the Panther (voice of Bob Joles). But because the villagers believe that the jungle is a dangerous place for children, Mowgli isn't allowed to visit. Bored and lonely, he dreams of his carefree days in the jungle and finally runs away from his new home to visit the jungle and the friends he left behind. This time he is followed by his neighbor Shanti (voice of Mae Whitman) and together they meet Baloo and friends for more adventures. The Jungle Book 2 Wants to Be Like The Jungle Book But Flounders

The Bottom Line: It's a fun romp, but it can't hold a candle to the original.
Review: I'm am a huge Disney fan, and if you asked me to rank all of their animated features, I'd have a very hard time of it. I know that The Jungle Book would have to come someplace near the top, though. I adore that movie and have watched it more times...

The Jungle Book, released in 1967, was the last animated feature Walt Disney personally supervised. It may not rank in the pantheon of such masterpieces as Pinocchio and Bambi, but it remains one of the studio's most beloved films, primarily because of the voice cast, which made more of an impression than the animation. This sequel has a "been-there, done-that" feel, but like man-cub Mowgli, one welcomes the opportunity to return to the jungle and sing and swing again to the Disney standard "The Bear Necessities." In this case, John Goodman steps in for the late, great Phil Harris, as jungle slacker Baloo the bear. The film begins with Mowgli (Haley Joel Osment) in the "man village," where he regales listeners with stories of his jungle upbringing. But as his adoptive father notes, "You can take the boy out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the boy." Defying orders, a homesick Mowgli crosses the river into the jungle, where he is reunited with his "Papa Bear," as well as other characters fro
