Product Description

The electrifying Oscar-winning performance by Susan Hayward forms the foundation for the film noir classic I WANT TO LIVE! Hayward plays Barbara Graham, the real-life occasional prostitute and full-time con artist and perjurer who was charged with a murder she claimed she didn't commit and became the first woman to be executed in the state of California. Based on news articles by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ed Montgomery and letters from the actual Barbara Graham, the film chronicles the year or so before the murder of a wealthy widow and shows Graham's involvement with con artists Emmett Perkins (Philip Coolidge) and Jack Santo (Lou Krugman), who are also charged with the crime. After trying to break free of the underworld by marrying drug addict Henry Graham (Wesley Lau) and having a child with him, the spunky, good-natured but desperate Barbara leaves Henry and goes back to setting up gambling rings and ripping people off. It's not long before she and her partners, Emmett and Jack, are arrested ...

Oscar-Winning Performance: I Want to Live!

Date of Review:  May 10, 2001

Review: Barbara Graham lived a life of seedy bars, smoke-filled back rooms and cheap hotels. She was a gutsy, street-wise woman caught in an inescapable lifestyle that would eventually lead to tragedy. Her real life drama was brought to the screen in the...

I Want To Live - the story of Barbara Graham

The Bottom Line: Nuttin special on the DVD, scene selections and that's all
Review:

This factual based movie was released in 1958 so I had to figure that it would be overly dramatic in the acting department. However it starred Susan Hayward, a beautiful and talented woman, who received an Oscar for her part as the lead,...

I Want to Live! .... and to Write In As Few Words As Possible!(Lean-n-Mean III)

Date of Review:  Dec 7, 2004
The Bottom Line: A good film from the 50's about a bad girl falsely charged with murder.
Review: sleeper54's write-off:
Lean-n-Mean III

When I watched I Want to Live! a couple of months back, I found myself trying to compare this film to In Cold Blood (1967). Where In Cold Blood was a dark and gritty picture, I Want to Live!...
