The Lost Symbol: Dan Brown Does It Again...Almost

Date of Review:  Sep 25, 2009
The Bottom Line: This book is worth a read because of the plotting and characterization.  Expect some long sections of detailed description for background purposes.
Review: Dan Brown tells a good story.  He's managed to do so in his previous 4 novels (Angels & Demons, The DaVinci Code, Deception Point, Digital Fortress), and now he almost does it again in The Lost Symbol.  After reading all of these published works to...

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown - Freemasons, Symbologists, and the CIA - OH MY!

Date of Review:  Sep 19, 2009
The Bottom Line: There were good and bad points to The Lost Symbol.  In the hands of a lesser author, this story probably would never see the light of day.
Review: After the success of The DaVinci Code, fueled by controversy over some of the religious beliefs he turned on its ear, writer Dan Brown has reached a point where he can probably write about almost anything and garner attention.  Not content to shake...

Robert Searches for a Secret in Washington in The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

Date of Review:  Sep 18, 2009
The Bottom Line: The Lost Symbol is another entertaining book by Dan Brown even though it has some issues and could have been better.
Review: When I got around to reading The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, the earlier books by Dan Brown featuring Robert Langdon, I really enjoyed them.  I have also enjoyed the movie versions of both books even though I know there are issues with both. ...

Professional Reviews

Boston Globe: "[P]ure, cheesy fun....Brown's plot is like a set of Russian nested dolls, with one revelation hiding another. He takes this mystical quest stuff quite seriously, and his unabashed enthusiasm for mystical topics such as pyramids, ancient wisdom, and Masonic initiation rites has an infectious quality that doubtless fuels his popularity....Perhaps the most notable quality of THE LOST SYMBOL is the breezy manner in which Brown's characters and his narrative examine truth, God, and other grand topics."
