MOVIE DVD - When Oscar-winning screenwriter Alan Ball created this series for HBO, he determined at the outset that nothing about Six Feet Under -- from its funeral home setting to the unorthodox relationships between its main characters -- would smack of the predictable. That was especially true of the final season, which aired in 2005 and delivered surprise after surprise. There were a few episodes we could call "stiffs," but series television has rarely provided moments such as those found in the 12 installments collected in this box. The season opener, "A Coat of Primer," gets things off to a rocky start when George Sibley (James Cromwell) returns from the hospital to find wife, Ruth (Frances Conroy), emotionally ill prepared to cope with his illness.
