Recently I decided I was going to get a laptop to assist me in my writing. Since it would be used for little more than a virtual pen and paper, I figured why spend $2000 when I could buy a used one. So I asked some of my friends where I should go to get a low cost used laptop. The usual names popped up. Ebay and Yahoo! Auctions were recommended most. Then a friend told me to try egghead.com. I'm glad he did.

Going to the site I found an assortment of computer related products. Everything any office could possibly want was there, including laptops. I spent some time looking at the newer models, but then went into the Auction/Clearance area. After using their extremely easy search feature, I was blown away. Searching for the word laptop and a max price range of $400 (c'mon, I only needed something to write on) I found over three dozen items come up. There were some great deals at the auction, but I decided it would be easier to go with the clearance.

Several computer refurbishers and rebuilders were offering dozens of models. It took my three days to actually figure out which one I wanted because there was so much to choose from. Eventually I picked out this old IBM ThinkPad. It was heavy, ugly, and if I named the features I would be laughed off this site. But it was what I wanted. I had actually gone to a site, found exactly what I wanted, and then couldn't decide on which great deal to get. Imagine that.

So I placed my order and thought everything was set. But due to some problems with the billing address (no the fault of Egghead I might add) I received a call from a customer service rep and we cleared things up. Anyway it arrived a week later and I really had no problems with the site whatsoever. And even though this is my account, everyone I talk to who has worked with Egghead has something good to say.

If you're looking for anything on new or used computers, go to Egghead. With great customer service, a wide variety of products, and an easy to use site, they're probably your best bet.
