Ever since ebay.com began its online auction site, the world has become a much smaller place. People worldwide can all go to just this one website to buy and sell literally almost anything. Once upon a time there would have been no way whatsoever for you to replace broken pieces of china that your grandmother had or to find the bottom part of a butter dish that your mother got for a wedding present fifty years ago. Or maybe you've started a new collection of fiesta ware but haven't been able to find many pieces locally. Perhaps dad has been looking for a rusty old hinge to go with his other rusty old hinge but hasn't been able to find one. Or maybe you just want a copy of a book that you had as a kid so that you can share it with your kids.

Well with ebay.com, you can go to this gigantic online auction site that is rather like a giant yard sale. You can find just about anything, win it at auction and then have it shipped directly to you!
Individual people put their items up for auction on ebay at the lowest price that they will accept. Then they decide how payment should be made for example through an online source like Paypal.com or maybe a postal money order, then they decide how much shipping will be and there you have it. Make a bid and the item could be yours. There are quite a few people who wait until the last minute to bid on items so if you REALLY want a particular item, you will need to either bid as high a price as you are wiling to pay and the ebay system will bid for you up to that maximum price OR you need to be online when the item you want is near its end.

One word of caution however; since each sale is from an individual person, you will want to view their feedback to make sure that they are a reputable seller. You can find not only used items on ebay but also brand new items. The list seems to be endless as to what you can buy through ebay.com

I have been using ebay for many years, at least seven years now. I have purchased many items such as books, horse statues, butterflies, jewelry, DVD’s, video games etc. I have also sold items on ebay as well.
I do feel that the fees for selling items on ebay are not too bad unless you sell a lot of items each month (I do not). They just recently had a price increase as well on their closing fees (after your item has sold, it’s a certain percentage of the sold price) but then ebay lowered the fee to list the item so perhaps it’s evened out.

If you decide to sell on ebay, I do suggest researching each item that you want to sell before you list it to see what your particular item is selling for on ebay. This is because you still have to pay listing fees even if your item does NOT sell which can get expensive if you list a lot that never sells.

For the person who has a lot of a particular item to sell, say books or those Italian bracelet charms, ebay now has something called eBay stores. A person can get a Basic ebay store for as low as $16.00 per month and then each item you list in your ebay store has a listing fee of only a few cents (plus a closing fee when your item sells). There are other perks to having an eBay store so you will need to check out the ebay website for more information on them.

I recommend ebay to everyone! It is a great place to find those hard to find items that are no longer sold in stores and sometimes you can get a really great deal! The selection of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is almost limitless on ebay!
