Retrurn hassle, shipping rip off, go elsewhere for better value

Bought a pair of shoes from a brand I have worn before. The shoes were a similar style to ones I owned but fit very differently. Although the product mix up was no ones fault I was charged $9.95 to ship and charged $5.75 shipping for the return. In the end It cost me essentially $15 to try and decide I do not like a $52 pair of shoes.
Their solution, mail it usps as it *may* be cheaper than their label or exchanges are free to ship or that if I get the emails or catlogue I can get a bargain on shipping. Not helpful to an unhappy first time customer. Another problem is that I bought the brand I wanted in a price that was fair. The remainder of the shoes were simply NOT what I wanted and overpriced. When they buy closeouts there isn't a lot to choose from. Lots of mixed groups in different sizes. Digging in their bin of bargains is a crap shoot at best.
As a first time customer I was not pleased. While I understand that the policy has been that way for 21 years Zappos a competitor with high quality service and product will ship FREE both ways. Next time I will use the extra $15 to get a nicer item elsewhere.
Will NOT shop with again. This isn't the 80's and a Mom and Pop shop better have attention to detail and good service if they want to stay afloat.
