Electronics shopping is something I usually try to do at a brick and mortar store. I like checking the product before I make a buying decision and that means giving it a look over on the display stand. I like to see the product and examine it directly and that means I generally dont use the internet for this type of purchase. But there are always exceptions to every rule and one site that I have used for product info and more is
Plasmahouse.com, a web site for televisions and other electronics products.
What Does This Service Offer?:
Plasma House offers products such as:
Televisions- Like its name indicates, this is primarily a web service for researching and buying plasma television sets. All of the popular brands are sold here, like Panasonic, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, RCA, and more. LCD televisions are sold here, too.
Projectors- DLP and LCD projectors are also sold in this web site, with a good assortment of brand names.
Cables- Game cables, audio, video, and various other connectors and adaptors are offered here.
Audio/Video- Here, you can shop for DVD players, A/V recorders, home theater systems, etc.
Accessories- In this part of Plasma House, customers can purchase television stands, television mounting devices, projector screens, and more.
Other products and services offered at Plasma House include extended warranties, installation services, headphones, wireless universal remotes, etc.
Payment Methods/Shipping Charges:
Payment must be made by credit card and Plasma House accepts the four major cards: Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. And there are five shipping options available on most orders: Business Day Economy (10 to 14 days); Freight Curbside (3 to 7 days); Freight in Home (3 to 7 days); Air Freight Curbside (2 days); and Air Freight in Home (2 days). The economy deliver option is often offered free of charge. The other options cost progressively more and can add significantly to the cost of your order.
Customer Service:
If you need help with placing an order or would rather place it over the phone, Plasma House can be reached at 866-234-9924. You can check the status of your order through the appropriate link in the site and you can send an e-mail with a customer support question to support@plasmahouse.com.
Final Thoughts:
Plasma House is an on- line store that specializes in televisions and a few other electronics products. I had not heard of this store until I did a Google search one day for a specific product and was directed into this site.
Most people come here looking for a new television and those who do will not be disappointed with the selection. Plasma House offers a large assortment of brand names and a nice assortment of screen sizes and other features. The product information can be sorted by brand, by price, or by screen size making it easy to find what you want and to narrow down your search to a specific set of criteria. The same is true with other products like home theater systems. However, the sorting methods are not very good with other things. I came here looking for a DVD player and quickly discovered that there is no way to sort the different options. You can narrow down to a specific brand but you cannot line up all the brands and sort by price, size, or anything else. Also, the product selection in this area isnt as good as with televisions.
To help those on a budget, Plasma House offers some products as refurbished, often at a substantial discount. Maybe you have had your mind set on a brand new 45 inch LCD television but you cant spare the $4,000 to purchase it. If you search through the LCD televisions, there is a good chance you will find a refurbished unit for $1,000 to $2,000 less. These refurbished options do not exist for everything, so you may not find what you want at this special discounted price. But is is nice to know these options are there because they can make items otherwise out of reach more affordable.
An account must be established to complete an order but this is simple enough. You have to supply your name, address, and phone number plus create a password and provide an answer to a security question (in case you forget your password at a later date). For added peace of mind, Plasma House
doesnt require the input of your credit card in order to establish an account. Credit cards are required to complete an order but not until you are ready to check out. Your credit card number is not stored in the system
I have had a little bit of trouble with the displays and page loads with Plasma House. I can remember the first time I visited this site, I clicked on a DVD player and clicked the link to look at product information and there was nothing there. I had to refresh my browser to get the information to appear. I often have the same problem with missing images. The pages dont load completely and I have to refresh I order to see them. I have high- speed internet access so I know the problem isnt on my end (for the record, I have accessed the site from other pcs and the same thing happened). Once the image displayed in the product information page, I was pleasantly surprised at the large image and the substantial amount of product information. Its all there, in black and white, making it easy to find what you want.
It is common to find free shipping offers at Plasma House on economy shipping. But you need to watch your screen when you approach the check- out. The default for shipping will usually not be the free option. It will be the next level up and you will have to remember to change the level of shipping in order to get it free of charge. The shipping is a little bit slow with the economy option, but it doesnt cost anything and that alone will convince many to select it.
One thing that should be pointed out is that Plasma House tends to offer products that are more expensive then the competition in areas outside of television sets. Plasma and LCD televisions are the main product for sale at Plasma House and the prices here are competitive. But with some of the other products, like projectors and DVD players, the prices are higher than average. To put it more accurately, these other categories often include only the more expensive brands. When I was looking for a DVD player, there were only three players offered that cost less than $100. Only with the television sets will you find a large selection with a broad range of prices.
Overall, Plasma House is a good enough site to check out but it could use some improvements. There needs to be more consistency with the sort options; the pages need to load faster; and the product offerings in some categories need to be expanded to include budget options. But the prices and product offers for television sets are very good and this is the main reason people visit this site. All of these factors convince me to give Plasma House an average rating overall. It isnt the greatest site, but it does offer some good television deals and often has free shipping.
