I've had two online shopping experiences with Linens and Things, and because they were so awful they will be my last. For the first order, I received a valance instead of a curtain rod I ordered. So I called customer service 4 times over a two-week period and they said "we'll send you a return label so you can send us the item and then we'll send you a refund" 30 days later.
After waiting 2 weeks, I decided to just take the valance to a nearby LNT store and exchange it for the curtain rod. The manager at the store was puzzled how LNT.com could send me the wrong item. He said he'd never seen that happen. Guess it must have been my lucky day! Thankfully he exchanged the item for me.
I ordered online a second time from Linens and Things, lured by free shipping and the belief that my first incorrect order was just a weird fluke. How wrong I was! I ordered 2 curtain rods and 3 valances. Instead I received 4 curtain rods with my valances. Two extra rods which were intended for someone else were packed in my order, along with their packing slips with their personal information.
I tried calling LNT customer service and kept getting their automated system instead of a live person, so I sent them an email via their "form" page. Eventually they sent me a return label for the extra rods, but also incorrectly gave me a credit for the items on my card.
It's no wonder, based on my experiences with their online store, that the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as of May 2008. LNT's stores and personnel are decent but I cannot say the same for its online store.
