J&R has a great site, allowing you to compare several items, in my case, this time, cameras. I was also able to watch a six minute video well describing it's features. I did my research right on their site, compared prices and features of other similar cameras, and was able to make a wise decision about buying this camera. The selection is amazing. I ordered it for in-store pick-up, and that was easy and fast. I bought this camera at a sale price, and then they dropped the price even more for a Fathers' Day sale. I called their customer service department, and without hassle, they lived up to their 30-day price guarantee and I got a $50 gift card in the mail for the difference. You can't beat that for customer service!
J&R has been around the lower Manhattan area for about 35 years and I've always had a good experience buying there. The salespeople are helpful, but sometimes there just aren't enough of them around when you need one. I bought a terrific Nikon digital camera and didn't need to check it out hands-on, but when I bought headphones, I really needed to listen to compare. When I went to J&R to pick up my camera, I figured I check out the headphones. A floor salesman was very helpful in recommending a few headphones that might be good for my purposes, and after some discussion, he suggested one particular pair. When I went upstairs to test it, there was only one employee on that floor and there was no music coming through the headphones displayed on a large sound wall. Once I got him to plug in the music, I was able to listen to about 6 or 7 headphones on a wall of over 50 in all price ranges, and after about 15 minutes I was convinced and bought the set the salesman had originally recommended.
I've purchased so many items from this store and have always had great assistance from salespeople, whether it was a DVD player, a home theater system, or my recent purchases of headphones and camera. When I buy music from them, the salesmen love music and they enjoy talking about different artists, which is something you won't find anymore in most electronics or even in music stores. I had a great conversation recently with one salesman about jazz saxaphonist Sonny Stitt, and soon, two other salesmen joined in for a lively talk about jazz. For me, it's always been convenient and an easy experience whether it's in-store, on-line, or over the phone. Their selection of computers, printers, movies, music, Ipods, phones, and TVs is outstanding. The website is easy to navigate -- even for me -- and the telephone and in-store salesman are helpful and pleasant.
