I once had a very positive review on this online retailer however it is now necessary to do a 360 on this review and totally change it, as I do not want to misrepresent a website that is not what it once was. For those that do not know the EBGames corporation was recently bought out by Gamestop and the change has not been for the better. The change is most noticeable in their B&M stores however I will not comment on this because this is not a review for the B&M store.
It is clear that the Gamestop corporation is in it for NOTHING but the profit and the bottom line. Since the EBGames buyout, prices on the website has skyrocketed, and I have begun to avoid it like the plague especially with a plethora of other very reliable and low priced online retailers out there to choose from. My main complaint is that they OVERCHARGE on most (new) video games by 5$, there are no discounts for using this online site like there are with others. This is 5$ over the MSRP price. If you compare their prices with that of other online retailers the price difference is usually more than a 5$ overcharge. They also charge tax to pretty much everyone. As you may know if you have been reading my other reviews I have purchased many video games from many different online retailers, and this is one of the most expensive out there.
Selection is very poor, they only stock the same games offered at your local retail store, Target or Walmart, while ignoring pretty much everything else. Other online retailers have a much more broad selection of video games, and do not ignore certain titles just because they may not be the most popular thing on the shelves.
Free shipping is available by using the SAVER code, however it does not work on anything like it used to back in the glory days of EBgames.com, it only works on a limited amount of items, not including video game system. If the code doesn't work for your item you will be charged shipping.
My other main complaint is that the quality of used merchandise from this store is absolutely abysmal. AVOID GAMESTOP.COM's USED MERCHANDISE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! We are talking about worse than garage sale quality merchandise here, and of course the used merchandise is sold at a price that is only a few dollars less than the new merchandise. If you order a CD disk game (used) such as that for the Playstation 2, you will receive a disk that looks like it has been placed on a sidewalk and stepped on and rubbed heavily into the sidewalk. Back when EBGames was a different website than Gamestop (they are now basically the same website) they used to guarantee that you would receive the case and manual with the used game you ordered, this is not the case now however, and you are now more likely to receive a disk only game than a game with a case and manual. Used merchandise is also priced even higher now than it used to be back in the glory days of EBGames.com, and the quality is even worse. They do not test any used merchandise before sending it out to customers. Because of the high probability of receiving heavily damaged used merchandise from this website, I cannot recommend the purchase of used merchandise at all, in fact I insist that you avoid it! The same goes for used video game systems from this website.
Popular video game systems (new) are often placed into an overpriced, forced bundle, and this is the only option they give you to purchase a system from them. There are various bundles available and they change from time to time, but the general idea is that they force you to buy stuff you may not want and stuff you may not need in order to sell more merchandise if you want the privilage of ordering a new video game system from Gamestop.com So if you want to purchase a Nintendo Wii for example, you would have to spend about $500-600 or possibly more and the bundle would likely include a couple games (you won't be able to choose), useless accessories and a warranty which you do not even need since Nintendo offers a one year manufacturers warranty with purchase of the Wii. There are many other online retailers such as amazon.com where you can order a system only and then purchase the other things you actually want separately giving you a choice of whatever you want, or you can choose to just purchase the system, for this reason I cannot recommend gamestop.com
Overall Gamestop.com has gone downhill a lot over the EBGames.com glory days, since they are now what I consider an overpriced video games retailer I will go somewhere else that is cheaper to shop, customers have choices with online stores!
