As I live in Mexico (born in Mexico City), electronics are very expensive compared to the US. I was more amazed to find out that the RXZ11 would sell here for about $10,000 US, making it one of the most (if not THE most) expensive receiver in this country. With that fact, it is prohibitive to buy it here. Period.

I have to look to the US to source the receiver and "smuggle" it across the border, else my taxes would raise the price almost to the Mexican price point. Another point is that if I get the amp in the US, Yamaha Mexico will NOT cover the warranty.

So im stuck between a rock and a hard place.

With these options I (no valid warranty in Mexico, extreme local price), I looked online for the Yamaha... and found DigitalCraze. Yes they do have a much lower price ($3800), yes it is not an authorized dealer so the US warranty is not covered there... and here.

I took the plunge and bought it.

Initially I was scared , with all the mixed reviews I saw at epinions, shopping.com, etc. The guy at digitalcraze (Eddie) said the unit would ship in two weeks from Yamaha and I would get a tracking number then. I also ordered the ipod dock.

So two weeks passed and I get nada, no tracking number. I called DC and they said they have the TN and after 8 calls on the same day, I finally got the tracking number and 4 days later I got the unit in El Paso. Sealed in factory conditions, brand new amp.

The only thing I did not get is the iPod dock. After calling and confirming it was missing, they gave me a tracking number for it. it is now also in El Paso.

I managed to smuggle the Yamaha into Mexico for 400 bucks and now is sitting in my a/v rack, working properly. I extremely happy with the unit.

If the unit breaks down... God forbid. Still if I had the US warranty, it would be extremely expensive to send the unit back to the US, and then have it send back to Mexico. I believe I got a good deal.

Overall, with DigitalCraze you will not get excellent customer service (prompt tracking numbers, no need to followuup, etc) and deffo no warranty.

They did offer me an "extended warranty" but I do not know what are its terms.

Hope it helps.
