Full review
At our house we have a
movie night every week. One person gets to pick the movie and the snack. Not a real big deal but something we enjoy.
We will watch the movies either in the living room or the family room, depending if the movie is a VHS or a DVD. Since we own A LOT (a friend owned a rental store and was moving so we bought over 100 of his movies alone) of VHS movies, and are able to pick up a new one for very little money, we usually watch them.
We enjoy watching the DVD's more and more and so we are slowly building up that collection as well. Which brings me to my review!
WHAT THE SITE SELLS
The
DVD Empire Online Store sells not only DVD's but VHS movies, CD's, Books and Games. They have the largest DVD selection of any DVD retailer on the Internet.
One nice feature at this site is their
pre-order manager. This is a handy little tool that keeps track of the titles you've pre-ordered. You can view them by title and/or release date.
It has the ability to add or delete from the
pre-order manager. This comes in handy when another movie comes up that has a release date close to another one on your list. You can add it to your list and get them
shipped together.
It is also nice if you are a sometimes
2buzy and might ~ just might ~ forget which movies she pre-ordered and when their release dates are.
SELECTION and FINDING WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR
The
DVD Empire Online Store not only has a great selection but it is set up really well. It is very
easy to navigate and I have never had a problem with an image not showing up.
Across the top of every page there are
five main areas ~ DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, CD's, VHS, Books and Games.
Under the main choices there are
seven sub areas as well ~ Home, Bestsellers, New and Future Releases, Pre-orders, Reviews, Partners and Adult DVD's.
All twelve of these links
follow you throughout the site, making it easy to click into any of those areas quickly at any time.
There is also a search option which can be used under
Titles, Cast & Crew or
Titles & Description.
SHIPPING and DELIVERY
DVD Empire Online Store offers FREE USPS
Shipping when you buy four or more titles!
This is one of my favorite things ~ I am a big push over for FREE shipping!
In order to get the free shipping you must order at least four titles and choose the
ship complete option. This will hold your order until ALL of your titles are available to ship. So, if one of your choices is NOT in stock, you will wait to receive ALL of your items until the back-ordered one becomes available. The great thing is, they can be any combo of DVD's, VHS, books and/or CD's making it VERY easy to find four things to buy!
The way around a longer wait is to just order movies that are in stock ~ which is clearly stated above each DVD's price.
The stated time for the free service is six to fifteen days which may seem like a long time to some, but since I am getting it shipped for FREE, doesn't ever bother me. Besides, this isn't an item I am in dire need to have!
After I place an order I always get an email with all the order information and confirmation number.
I get another email once the order is shipped.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
I have had to call customer service only once but I was talking to a LIVE person in just over 5 minutes! Even better, she was able to deal with and solve my problem right away. It was MY mistake, I had ordered a re-make by accident.
I do have one complaint here though and, that is their hours. They are only open till 5:30PM ET ~ which here in Washington (and the rest of the West Coast) is only 3:30 PM.
It would be nice to have some extended hours for those who aren't able to call during the day.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS
I have ordered from them three times. All of my orders were mixed with both DVD's and other items.
I have shipped under the free shipping option each time and they all arrived within the stated time table.
There have been no problems with any of my orders other than my own ordering mistake which was fixed before any thing was shipped.
Their prices are better than
Amazon as well as my local video and/or department store.
UPDATE
I have recently found another site ~
Deep Discount DVD which has LOWER prices than this one. I would suggest you ALWAYS compare prices when buying but would recommend you also check out
Deep Discount DVD when looking for lower prices.
