I ordered an Avanti dual zone wine cooler from Compact Appliance in October of 2007. The unit that was delivered was defective. They issued an RMA and arranged to have the unit picked up. The replacement unit, which I suspect was the same unit that was returned, was also defective with the same problem.
When I called Compact Appliance, I was told that they were not responsible for defective units and that I would have to deal with the manufacturer, Avanti, directly.
Avanti gave me the contact information for several repair shops that they said would do the warranty repair. All of the shops that they gave me contact information on refused to do the warranty service since Avanti had failed to pay them for previous warranty service.
When I spoke with Avanti about this situation, they assured me that there was no problem and gave me contact information for yet another repair service. That shop has attempted to repair the unit three times with no results. They finally said that they needed to replace the temperature control board and would order the part from Avanti. That was three months ago. Avanti keeps saying that the part is backordered and they can not say when it will be available.
Compact Appliance says that even though they sell the product, they will not stand behind the product or take any responsibility for selling products that are manufactured by a very bad manufacture. When I talked to several of the recommended repair shops, they all said that the Avanti products were know to be bad and that Compact Appliance was well aware of the problems from other customers.
It appears that the only thing Compact Appliance is concerned about is making the sale and then telling the customer that they sold a bad product to that it is not their problem. They have their money and that is all they care about.
I strongly warn anyone who is thinking about purchasing any products from Compact Appliance to buy from someone else. Once Compact Appliance has your money, they could care less about any problems that you have with the junk that they sell.
I have never dealt with such an irresponsible operation as Compact Appliance. Their Customer Disservice department almost laughs at you when you call in regarding a problem.
