I ordered a
King Newport Tropical Mahogany Platform bed for $479, shipping included. (Item #7121) It arrived Sept. 3, 2009. Two of the cartons arrived open with large bright pink stickers that read "CONDITION NOTED." They were placed there by the shipping company that delivered them to me in Connecticut.
I signed for the delivery and asked the driver who was responsible for the condition of the boxes. He told me to contact the merchant.
When my husband and I opened the boxes, the headboard was literally smashed into pieces. I could see from the construction of the headboard that the manufacturing was sub standard. The rails of the headboard were barely inserted into the toprail and the glue that was used was clumped around the rails.
The worst part of this experience is that
Bedroom Furniture Direct (aka, CYMAX Stores)
refuses to pick up the bed or credit my account. I have spent over three weeks and countless hours "in dispute" with CYMAX's Resolution Specialist.
This is what
Cymax charged me for a shipment that arrived damaged and totally unusable:
1)
The outgoing shipping fee. Which was free when I made my purchase!
2) A
25% restocking fee of $113
3) I must
return the damaged and unusable bed AT MY EXPENSE.
Out of a $479 purchase, my refund BEFORE RETURN SHIPPING CHARGES would be $280.
The Resolution Specialist asked me to reopen the cartons, take digital photos and send via email so they could resolve the issue. I did this and waited over a week for the response. I contacted them again and two days later I get a response stating the exact same "resolution" as they stated before they received the photos. (See above.) So much for helping the customer!
I did my own research and called Rapid Express and DB Schenker who were the companies involved in the delivery. Both companies were very courteous and helpful.
I discovered that CYMAX did not insure the delivery through either company. HOWEVER, when you read CYMAX's return policy they HIGHLY RECOMMEND that all deliveries be insured when returned.
Yet it appears that they didn't insure a wooden KING BED that was being shipped from California to Connecticut! This is not over yet. I am not going to pay for product that arrived shatterred to pieces. I will not give in to their tactics to wear me down.
DON'T BUY FROM THIS MERCHANT. They don't play fair.
