Full review
When considering ordering glasses online, I did a lot of research and 39dollarglasses.com consistently got the most positive reviews. I ordered two sets of prescription glasses, both for distance vision, one with the anti-glare coating (39.95 + 25), one with the Driveware "Transitions" lens (39.95 + 89), both with the Leonardo frames. Prior to ordering, I got quick and courteous customer assistance from a registered optometrist who answered my questions and gave me detailed help in how to determine Pupillary Distance (PD) which I had been unable to get from my eye doctor, an ophthalmologist. When I called back a second time I was able to request and speak to the same person to ask a followup question.
The wait time for delivery was longer than I expected - nearly three weeks via Priority Mail - though that included the Labor Day weekend (see note on later experience below). Both pairs of glasses arrived in good condition. My impression was that the frames were lighter and not as strong as my old glasses, but given the difference in price - the old glasses were over $200 a pair from a local chain - I thought the overall quality was acceptable and that I would just need to be more careful with them.
I've been using these glasses for about 6 months now and I've had no problems with them. I'm extremely impressed with the Driveware "Transitions" lens, which go from yellow/green for high contrast, to copper brown for bright light. I wore them for the first time on a long drive back from Maine. It was a very gray, overcast day and I was blown away by how much easier they made my drive. The high contrast made my driving significantly more relaxed. I've used them in all conditions and they have been great.
Overall, our experience with the company and their customer service has been excellent and I definitely recommended them.
Update 28 May 2009: We have since placed two additional orders and each time the order-to-arrival time was a very fast 5 days using USPS First Class Mail (Long Island to Massachusetts). Customer service also again answered a question promptly and courteously. The most recent order included specific requests regarding cases and these were handled correctly and at no charge and a discount code for $10 off that we neglected to enter when we ordered was applied retroactively. We continue to be impressed by the customer service and very prompt delivery.
