REFLECTION OF YOUTH, CAMEO PIN PENDANT, ITALIAN, MASTER CARVED, SARDONYX SHELL, 925 STERLING SILVER FRAMED. Recapture the spirit of youth with this beautiful hand carved, Italian, carnelian conch shell cameo pin pendant. Bezel set in a unique 925 Sterling Silver filigree rope frame edged with a smaller filigree rope, the cameo measures 34 x 28 mm (1.1/4 x a little more than 1 inch). It is entirely hand made by skilled Italian Artisans. Sea shell cameos are made only in Torre del Greco, near Naples, in Italy. They are created by hand carving individual pieces of double layered sea shells with a steel burin. The artisan attaches the selected piece to the end of a dub stick using special glue. He then begins carving from the softer outer layer which permits the incision of a face or figure, working toward the glassy inner layer which is then cleaned using a rotating brush rendering it shiny. This is an antique art passed on from the Greeks to the Romans which today requires a five to six year apprenticeship to become, given that one has the necessary talent, a master artisan. Black and white sea shells, Cassis Madagascariensis or Sardonic (Sardonyx), come from the Caribbean while the ivory colored shells, called Cassis Rufa or Corniola (Carnelian), come from Madagascar. BEAUTIFUL, ITALIAN, OVAL, HAND CRAFTED 18K GOLD FRAMED WEDGWOOD GODDESS FLORA CAME PIN PENDANT. FLORA is the Roman Goddess of flowering plants, especially those that bear fruit. Spring, of course, is her season, and she has elements of a Love-Goddess, with its attendant attributes of fertility, and blossoming. She is quite ancient; the Sabines are said to have named a month for her (which corresponds to our and the Roman April). The cameo comes in a delicately hand made 18k gold filigree rope frame edged with a smaller filigree rope and measures 35 mm from top to bottom and 25 mm from right to left. (1 and ¾ inch x a little more than 1 inch). THE SAME COMPOSICHION AS WEDGWOOD. Wedgwood is the company name because the man, who developed this type of clay composition, wherever he got the idea over 200 years ago, was Josiah Wedgwood.
