The traditional rainsticks originated in northern Chile where they are used in ceremonies to bring rain. Made from the skeleton of the capado cactus: when the cactus dies it is dried, hollowed out, and filled with small seeds or pebbles. Small nails are driven through the hull of the cactus in a spiral formation, and when the rainstick is inverted the fill striking the nails creates the sound of water falling. As you use your rainstick the seeds will polish and develop an even finer sound. These rainsticks will not wear out, they only wear in. Due to the natural materials used, this instrument is somewhat fragile in nature and will need to be handled with care.

The natural death of cactus wood takes years, and during this period of decay its exposure to sun, wind and sand gives the cactus wood its diverse character and color tones. This complexity contrasts beautifully with the simple grains and colors of the pine, and the unique styling will compliment all rustic, western, southwestern and lodge décor themes. All iron and hardware is hand-forged with a distressed, rust-colored finish, and all construction is tongue and groove. The pine framework is finished in a natural-colored stain, and the cactus inlay planks are polished to accentuate their natural patterns. A polyurethane coating is applied at the end of the manufacturing process to further protect and beautify each piece.
